Mirror Armor
“It was worn by noble warriors in ancient times. Today one hardly ever sees it, except on tradition-conscious emirs. Naturally, I wear this type of armor.”
— Rashim ben Shafir, Novadi warrior, modern
Tulamydian mirror armor, the crowning achievement of sarworkers (professionals who specialize in making chainmail), is one of the most magnificent types of chainmail ever produced in Aventuria. It consists of extremely fine chain links reinforced by gold-inlaid metal plates, providing an excellent blend of protection and mobility. No other non-dwarven chainmail is as tightly woven and offers as much protection. The resulting cost limits it to the wealthiest Tulamydes, such as emirs, sultans, and caliphs. Mirror armor is often worn together with a richly-adorned Baburin hat.
Mirror armor gets its name from the fact that its many highly-polished metal plates reflect the light of the sun and are reminiscent of mirrors. According to legend the great hero Akar ibn Maroszan slew a dreaded basilisk by tricking the beast into seeing its own reflection in the armor.
Due to its exorbitant cost, mirror armor is a rare sight these days. Only the most affluent Tulamydes can afford such largely — ceremonial armor, and they always wear it with pride.

“Excellent armor. Hardly anything wrong with it. Seems like you humans finally learned something from us Angroshim.”

“It is also worn in Arania, but again, only by affluent warriors. Its expense guarantees that only an emira, a sheik, or a wealthy hero can afford it.”
— Mirhiban al’Orhima, Tulamydian fire mage

“I heard that mirror armor gets its name from a heroic deed performed by Akar ibn Maroszan, a Tulamydian warrior who polished the plates on his armor until they shone like mirrors. This allowed him to get near the most dangerous monster in Aventuria — the basilisk.”
— Geron Bladebreaker, mercenary

“And? Did he slay the basilisk?”
— Rowena of the Transweal, Bornish cat witch

“Yes. Akar showed the basilisk its own reflection and managed to kill it — right before dying an agonizing death himself from exposure to the toadspawn’s deadly miasma.”
— Geron Bladebreaker, mercenary
