Flint and Steel

“In the olden days, Angrosh gave us the two most important things there are: fire and steel. One cannot exist without the other, and we cannot exist without both.”
-Hardas son of Kurolas, dwarven warrior, modern

Sooner or later, all travelers wish to stop and rest next to a hearty fire, and Travia’s favor makes it so. Even the most experienced champions in Aventuria break a blade every now and then, and Ingerimm’s favor ignites the blacksmith’s fire. Fire deters wild animals from coming closer, especially at night.

Most Aventurians use flint and steel to make fire. Flintstone is an ash gray rock found in many mountain ranges. It may be purchased at any market and found in every smithy. When struck against a piece of steel at the correct angle, or if the steel is ground quickly against flint, the resulting sparks may ignite dry branches, leaves, or tinder. Though more difficult than using flint and steel, one can use two pieces of steel alone to create sparks.

Worshippers of the Twelvegods strongly believe that Ingerimm imbued flint with the power to create magnificent flames from small sparks, and that he scattered flint upon the ground for all to use. Adventurers rarely lack for steel, which is a common component of weapons. For those who don’t go about armed, every smithy sells bits of steel especially for making a fire.
