Dshadra

Dshadra

“Unlike Middenrealmers, the Tulamydes don’t use war lances. Instead, they have a spear that they commonly wield from horseback. It is long and nicely decorated, but it doesn’t seem robust to me. I can’t say if it is any good, but I honestly don’t think it is.”
— Jorge Oakenfield, Andergastan mercenary, 1036 FB

Whether fighting while mounted or on foot, the Tulamydes, Novadi, and Ferkinas put their trust in a spear called a dshadra. It differs from more typical spears mainly in its length and the diameter of the shaft. It is a reasonable substitute for a lance when fighting while mounted, though it is too flexible to sweep someone’s legs out from under them.

Mounted Ferkina and Novadi warriors attack with dshadras first, and then switch to other weapons for close combat.

Mirhiban al’Orhima, Tulamydian fire mage

“Tulamydes rarely use dshadras unless mounted. Novadi and Ferkinas use this weapon for all engagements, so my people consider it an inelegant weapon.”

— Mirhiban al’Orhima, Tulamydian fire mage

Geron Bladebreaker, mercenary

“I am on the fence about this one. It is not as good as a spear, but, on the other hand, you can use it from horseback without difficulty. I think it is useful only for mounted combat.”

— Geron Bladebreaker, mercenary
