Leather Shield
“It was a sea of leather. Tribal warriors in rank and file, each carrying a shield so large that they could completely hide behind them. Their defense could be broken, but it would take time to fight our way through all those shields—time which they could use for a counterattack.”
— Excerpt from The Battles of Our Ancestors, Chapter XIII, by Rondrikan Munkels
This serviceable shield is made from layers of hardened leather, light in weight, and large enough to protect the entire upper body. However, it requires frequent upkeep and repair, especially after seeing combat, and is not strong enough to use offensively.
Due to its size, the leather shield is not well suited for every fighting style. It is favored by Forest Folk, lizard people, and other tribal cultures.

“The common Middenrealmish warrior may laugh at the sight of a leather shield, but I know better. I once served as a missionary among the proud Utulu warriors of the Forest Islands. I saw their leather shields turn the arrows of Al’Anfan slave hunters.”
— Brother Hilbert of Auen, Blessed One of Peraine
