Seal-killer
“The firnelves don’t use wolf-knives, but they have something that works just as well in close combat. I don’t know what they call it, but we call it a seal-killer.”
— Xaron of Punin, guild mage, modern
In their icy home in the north, the firnelves find precious few metal deposits. What little they find they use for making seal-killers, swords that are like sabers in many respects.
The seal-killer’s single edge is suitable for killing animals, but in combat, wielders must always be mindful of keeping that single edge aimed at opponents when attacking. Like most elven-made weapons, the seal-killer is not designed for the proportions of humans or dwarves. Nonetheless, this rare weapon is prized by collectors.

“You really use this to kill cute little seals?”

“I am not a firnelf, but I know from experience that it is difficult to survive in the icy wastes. One eats what one can. Besides, humans slaughter pigs, which are smarter than dogs and just as lovable.”
— Layariel Treetopglint, elven wyldrunner

“Humans kill pigs, yes, but killing piglets? Well, I don’t, at any rate. Your cousins in the far north must have few choices.”
— Rowena of the Transweal, Bornish cat witch
