Iron Forest Crossbow

“You want a ranged weapon that never misses its mark? Look no further! Allow me to present the Iron Forest. No crossbow shoots farther and more precisely than this masterpiece, and you will never find another ranged weapon that readies faster and loads more easily. Come, try it for yourself.”
— Hardas son of Kurolas, dwarven warrior, modern

Although the Iron Forest crossbow is large, heavy, and comparably unwieldy, it has a unique feature, namely, a top-mounted, sliding magazine that holds ten bolts. Pulling the magazine rearward draws the bowstring and loads the next bolt simultaneously, greatly increasing the weapon’s rate of fire. Owners must take care, however, to correctly load the magazine and regularly clean and inspect the weapon’s mechanisms. Improper use and maintenance leads to weapon jams and time-consuming repairs.

Even though the crossbow’s size and intricate reloading mechanism make it quite heavy, it is well balanced and easy to aim.

Weapon Advantage: Gain a +3 bonus for aiming (to a maximum of +4).

Weapon Disadvantage: A botch (whether confirmed or not) causes a heavy weapon jam. Clearing the jam takes 2 actions. When using the Botch Table optional rule, this effect is cumulative with any other weapon jam results.
