Light Crossbow
“When people say the word crossbow, they probably mean a light crossbow. It’s the most common type. No special features. No frills. Very easy to use.”
— Jorge Oakenfield, Andergastan mercenary, 1036 FB
Though slimmer than its cousins, the light crossbow still offers good penetrative power against targets as far away as 260 feet. Its only drawback when skirmishing is its slow reload time. Apart from that, it is quite affordable, easily repaired, and available nearly everywhere. Many city guards carry light crossbows, as do militia units, brigands, and adventurers.

“Remember that you usually get only one shot off before closing with the enemy. This may not be much when compared to a bow, but crossbows are much easier to use. I’d say its advantages and disadvantages cancel each other out.”
— Carolan Calavanti, Vinsaltan vagabond
