Backpack, Leather

“A true follower of Aves always wears a backpack.”
—Common saying in the Middenrealm

Planning is commendable, but too many travelers set out with an entire kitchen’s worth of utensils on their back. Such items are indeed necessary for wilderness survival, but nobody, not even a proud and broad shouldered Thorwaler, can carry all this without risk of injury or mishap.

Backpacks are ideal for carrying tools, provisions, treasure, and almost anything else that fits inside. Most are made of leather, although cheaper versions are usually made from cloth and are much smaller and less tear resistant. Backpacks can be worn over one or both shoulders, and when worn properly, they cover the entire back. Many backpacks have a single large compartment that can be closed with a pull-and-knot closure like that on a coin bag, and include straps for hanging and securing unwieldy items that do not fit inside. Adventurers often carry woolen blankets or tents rolled up and strapped to the top of the backpack, and carry smaller weapons lashed to the sides.
