Dressing Material (Bandages and Splints)

“To splint or to bandage, place the dressing in vinegar for three days. Then, wash it with clear spring water and soak it in a salve made from Wirsel herb.”
-excerpt from the Kitab ash Shifa, a magical book on healing arts, date unknown

Heroes must always remember to pack dressing material for their journeys. Simple kits include cloth bandages, pincers, a needle and thread to sew up wounds, and a sharp cutting tool. A scalpel is best suited for that purpose, although badly equipped healers often must use a knife.

Good kits contain at least a scalpel, a setting tool, and a spatula. The best often includes a bone saw and scissors for cutting away cloth near the wound. Most contain a selection of pain-relieving and hemostatic herbs in powder or tincture form, to clean or treat an injury.

Many healers supplement these packs with strong schnapps and some reasonably effective home remedies. Superstitious healers also pack some good luck charms. Dressing material, especially bandages, is easy to obtain. In a pinch, bandages may easily be improvised from other items.

The best dressing material is always available in cities with a large Peraine temple, as healing is one of the highest duties of the Church’s Blessed Ones.<>/p
