Sickle

“Have you heard the story of Drisbert, the brave farmer’s son who fought in the Battle of 1,000 Ogres? He was armed only with a sickle and still he killed one of those filthy man eaters. Let me tell you the story, my child.”
-Nexal Lassan, druid, modern

Unlike the scythe, which is intended for rough work, the sickle also can cut fragile herbs and even individual blades of grass with precision. While intended to be a tool, the sickle is often used as a weapon. Its sharp, curved blade is quite capable of causing bad wounds, but it is not very well suited for defense, its short length and curving blade offer little leverage for parrying an enemy’s weapon or diverting the force of a blow. Some people think the sickle’s shape aids in disarming an enemy, but the truth is that sickles do not perform any better at this task than other weapons.

Carolan Calavanti, Vinsaltan vagabond

“No warrior would choose a sickle as a primary weapon, but you do sometimes see people carrying them in territorial armies. They are easier to carry than war scythes and most people find them more threatening than daggers, which is why farmers like to carry them.”

— Carolan Calavanti, Vinsaltan vagabond

Brother Hilbert of Auen, Blessed One of Peraine

“Druids carry golden sickles in addition to their special daggers, or at least that’s what people say in Weiden. Apparently, a druid’s sickle can cut through stone like a knife through butter.”

— Brother Hilbert of Auen, Blessed One of Peraine
