Tinderbox and Tinder
“Gorng has found the secret of fire. Box of woman without hair is secret. Now Gorng has box.”
-Gorng, ape man, modern
For tinder to burn brightly once ignited, it must be kept dry. Tinderboxes serve that purpose. Tinderboxes are commonly included in many adventurers’ packs and found in many kitchens.
Most are about the size of a man’s palm, but other sizes also exist. Boxes are usually made from bronze and copper, but expensive versions are made of silver and come with artful decorations. To repel moisture, tinderboxes are kept wrapped in waxed cloth. Many can survive a heavy rain or an accidental bath without affecting the tinder inside, but no tinderbox is completely water-proof. Once wet, tinder takes longer to ignite.
Tinderboxes make excellent containers for many items besides tinder, including sweets, jewelry, and maps. However, most people use them to store materials for igniting a fire.
