Woolen Blanket

Whether coarse or fine, nothing warms better than sheep and goat wool. Most commercial woolen blankets are large enough to encompass an average Aventurian adult. Smaller blankets also are popular, for instance as home decoration or as a carpet. Price depends on quality and thickness. Those who cannot afford woolen blankets must rely on discards or quilts made from scraps of cloth. Residents of colder regions of Aventuria own at least one woolen blanket, while those who live in warmer climes often joke about why someone would carry a thick carpet around.

Travelers are always thankful to sleep on something softer than cold ground covered with pine needles or rough straw, and woolen blankets have saved quite a few Aventurians from freezing to death. Among the Fjarnings, a woman with a good woolen blanket is considered wealthier than a man with 10 pounds of gold.

The best woolen blankets are made on the Cyclopes Islands, which are home to a highly-prized breed of sheep known as a Phraisheep. Wool from these animals offers unparalleled protection from the cold but also is more delicate than other types of wool.
