Rock-cleaver

“Never underestimate dwarven inventions, my child. Their axes cut through solid rock like ours slice through rotten wood.”
— Elwain, to his granddaughter Breda, Winhall, 1037 FB

The rock-cleaver looks just like a regular double-bladed dwarven axe, except that it can cut through the hardest granite with relative ease. This unsubtle weapon requires no special skill to wield in battle, and dwarven warriors use it both as a weapon and a mining tool.

Like all products of Angroshim smithing, the rockcleaver is designed for dwarves, and members of other races often find it difficult to wield. If handled recklessly, the axe blade may become stuck in certain materials (such as metal weapons and armor, and even stone walls), and freeing the blade takes some effort.

“For dwarves, there is no better choice for close combat, whether splitting orc skulls or dismembering tatzelwurms.”

— Arbosh son of Angrax, forge dwarf master smith

Note: To buy a rock-cleaver during character creation, the hero must be from a dwarven culture.

Weapon Advantage: Gain a +1 bonus for the maneuver Hammer Blow. When performing the maneuver Shatter, roll 2D6 instead of 1D6, and add the greater die result to the DP.

Weapon Disadvantage: When wielding a rock-cleaver, non-dwarves suffer a -2 penalty to AT, PA, and DP. A botch (confirmed or unconfirmed) while performing the maneuvers Forceful Blow or Hammer Blow causes the weapon to become stuck. Recovering the weapon requires a free action and a successful Feat of Strength (Dragging & Pulling) check.
