Throwing Spear
“When hunting animals, we only rarely rely on bows here in the north. The animals here are far larger than in the south. Therefore, we use throwing spears.”
— Druan bren Anargh, Gjalsk animal warrior
Throwing spears are much shorter and lighter than common spears and often strike with enough force to knock enemies off their feet. Because they are designed to be thrown, they are less useful in close combat, and unless the thrower has more spears available, the first one must somehow be retrieved before it may be thrown again.
Throwing spears are common in barbaric cultures such as those of the Gjalsks, the Troll Peakers, and the Ferkinas. One notable exception are the skilled female warriors of Arania, who carry throwing spears aboard their chariots.
