Rope Ladder
“Climb, or stay where you are and feed the dragon.”
-old dwarven proverb
When someone cannot climb a single rope for any reason, a rope ladder may be just what they need. To make such a ladder, simply grab two ropes of equal length and connect them with wooden planks or small pieces of rope to use as steps. Most pre-made rope ladders are between 16 and 20 feet long and easily roll up for storage, just like a regular climbing rope. Suspending a rope ladder usually requires more effort than securing a climbing rope, but doing so offers a larger traveling company a far quicker means of ascending and descending a sheer surface. Rope ladders also can be found on many farms, where they serve in barns and other places where permanent staircases are impractical.
This ladder also is popular as a child’s plaything. When hung from a branch, children can swing freely in the wind, and they often make a game of it by trying to dislodge each other, competing to see who can hold onto the ladder the longest.
Rope ladders are most widely used in the Middenrealm.
