Spear

Spears have been used by every culture since the dawn of time and are common almost everywhere. Those with steel tips can cut through almost any armor, and have an advantage not shared by swords and battle-axes, namely, their reach. A spear fighter can use its length to keep opponents at a distance, and can even push them back with jabs.

Experienced fighters also can parry effectively when using spears two-handed, but this precludes shield use. Note that wielding a spear with a shield requires the corresponding technique.
