Long Bow
“The Nostrian prince could draw his long bow and shoot a false saltarel from his beloved’s head, from 300 feet away— with his eyes closed!”
— Elwain, to his granddaughter Breda, Winhall, 1037 FB
The long bow is in the same category, rangewise, as the composite bow and elven bow, and is comparatively damaging. It is ideally suited for attacking distant units of troops with a ballistic shot, which does not require aiming at a specific target. Since it was invented for war, not hunting, the long bow is most often found in the hands of soldiers and mercenaries. Adventurers and bandits also sometimes carry them.
Due to their length, long bows are not suitable for use from horseback.
